Dynamic IR Drop at the Chip Centre

  • Identify high-toggle cells - clock nets toggle at 200 percent, and signal-net activity is taken from VCD, TCF or SAIF data.
  • More clock cells being clustered together in that region drives the local dynamic IR drop.

KEY Dynamic IR drop appears mid-chip because high-toggle clock cells are clustered there.

Reducing Dynamic Power

  • Reduce the power-supply voltage.
  • Reduce the voltage swing at all nodes.
  • Reduce the switching probability (activity/transition factor).
  • Reduce the load capacitance.

KEY Cut dynamic power by lowering voltage, swing, switching activity and load capacitance.
